Brian Pickell has been playing and composing traditional music for over twenty-five years. In the 1970s, he was a founding member of the Humber River Valley Boys who played from Atlantic to Pacific and produced three vinyl albums. They played all of the major Folk and Bluegrass festivals. For several years, Brian has been involved with the teaching of composition, guitar and mandolin at venues such as the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, Northwest Fiddlefest in Smithers, British Columbia, and AlgomaTrad Music & Dance Family Camp. Brians compositions are now being played and recorded widely: Deaf Shepherd (Scotland), Tony McManus, arguably the greatest guitarist in Celtic music (Scotland), Liz Doherty (USA/Ireland), Pierre Schryer (Canada) and numerous others. Brian's tunes are clearly fresh sounding, yet very friendly to old-time and traditional music.
Shane Cook "rates at the top of the short list of the finest fiddlers in the world today." He is a master at merging his versatile Canadian old-time fiddling with a wide variety of fiddling styles that include Cape Breton, Irish, Scottish, French-Canadian, Texan and Bluegrass. Shane tours regularly in Canada and the USA as a member of the production Bowfire, "an unforgettable performance by the leading names in each genre of modern violin playing." Some of Shane's past tours have seen him perform from coast to coast in Canada and the USA as well as in Germany, England and Taiwan. As a competitive fiddler Shane has an impressive record having earned over 250 awards including the top honour at all four of the most prestigious fiddle competitions in North America.
Jake Charron (piano, guitar, whistles) continues to build a reputation as one of Canadas finest accompanists for fiddle music. He has become a much sought-after musician for traditional styles, playing piano and guitar with artists across the country. Jake has performed with fiddle champions Shane Cook, Mark Sullivan, Pierre Schryer, Louis Schryerand many others including his younger brother Kyle. Jake has recently enjoyed working with Stephanie Cadman's Celtic Blaze, and also with fiddler/stepdancerDan Stacey. He has been the house pianist at the Canadian Open Fiddle Championships in Shelburne for the past 6 years. Jake has also worked with Cape Breton tenor Tom Leadbeater, and regularly performs Brian Pickell & Shane Cook, and also has toured with ECMA winner Troy MacGillivray (fiddle, piano).
